Chapin business and family papers, 1815-1934.

Estate papers, including inventories, financial records and correspondence of a New Hartford, Connecticut family. Also bills and receipts, patent right transfers, water right transfers, court records, and merger records of the H. Chapin's Son company with the Stephens Company in 1901. Both companies produced wooden planes and rulers. Also records of the Chapin Machine Company, manufacturer of sewing machines, including correspondence and legal documents , as well as diaries, 1868, 180, 1871, kept by Philip E. Chapin, owner of the company. Additional items include deeds, summonses, receipts and probate records from the Bunnell, Stevens and Lines families and the papers of H. Wales Lines. Several anonymous memoranda/account books and a letter from James R. Hawley are included. The principal family members are Hermon Chapin, Catherine Merrill Chapin, Edward M. Chapin, Philip E. Chapin and Frank Chapin.
